U.S. President Joe Biden arrives in Florida on Sunday to survey damage from Hurricane Milton, the second storm to hit the low-lying state in recent weeks even as flood waters keep rising.

While the newly developed storm-proof homes have endured a few storms since people moved in last year, Hurricanes Helene and Milton put those features to the test.

At least 17 people in Florida have died due to Hurricane Milton, according to confirmed reports across the state. Six of those deaths were in St. Lucie County. Sheriff Keith Pearson confirmed initial deaths after tornadoes ripped through Spanish Lakes County Club Village and other areas near Lakewood Park in northern Fort Pierce.
