Lowell Lake is a very special, and beautiful nature sanctuary, home to turtles, beavers, muskrats, wild rabbits, raptors and migratory birds.

Like the previous answer, there are cabins, but I am not sure if they are available to the public (did not see them on the state park website). Swimming is great! No power boats allowed, water is warm with few weeds. Best way to explore the lake is with a kayak, canoe or SUP. Set up on an island and swim, swim, swim!
any better spot for fishing at Lowell lake ? taking my 5 year old and 15 year old this coming week. Thanks, Andy

Take your son back there... Go in a canoe. I caught a 5.2lb 27 inch Largemouth there... That was in June of 2013. I'm coming back in June of 2015.. Air BNB has great priced houses within a 30 minute drive for 60-100 bucks per night, cheaper if you stay for 7 days.... I also caught big Perch and Very Big Sunnies.
