The Guitar Center Hollywood story began in 1959, when founder Wayne Mitchell purchased The Organ Center, a small appliance and home organ store. Stocked with Vox guitars and amplifiers after the British Invasion, the name was changed to Guitar Center in 1964. Outgrowing that location in 1971, Guitar Center moved to a new, larger retail space on the famous Sunset Boulevard. By 1984, Guitar Center Hollywood needed to expand once again and moved to the current 30,000-square-foot location.
