Convenient service to enable travel around the Islands. Wildlife trips as well. Owing to tides and the weather boat times can only be advised last minute. So don’t try to plan an outing too far ahead…Full review by Linda D

Without the Boatmen's association we'd be stuck on one island. They run a very efficient service ferrying passengers to the other islands and tours of others further afield. All weather dependant. Al…Full review by adsontour123

Fantastic trips to the islands. Boats were on time and communication about departures was clear. Great that some islands dropped out at one point and collected from another, meaning you could enjoy a…Full review by 165islam
We are going to Cornwall for a couple of weeks in September and are looking to see if a day trip to Tresco Abbey Gardens was feasible. Grimsby to Grimsby!! would be worth a day out especially if we combined it with a couple of trips on the Scillion? What are the dangers of getting stranded for the night?

If you travel on the Scillonian, the chances of getting stranded are very, very low. It only doesn't sail in the most extreme weathers and you'd know they were on the cards in advance I'm sure. Assuming normal sailing times, you should arrive on St Mary's at around noon and I suspect there would be a local boat to take you to Tresco pretty much straight away. The Scillonian sails at about 4:30pm (earlier on a Saturday I think, but please check), so you probably won't get more than 2-3 hours in the gardens - enough to get a feel for it, but certainly not enough time to cover it all. You might want to consider an overnight stay which would of course give you more time to explore. Finally, I hope you are good sailors. The crossing on the Scillonian can be "interesting" (= a bit rough) as a result of the complex tides and essentially a flat-bottomed ship. Don't let any of this put you off - it's well worth the adventure. Hope that helps.
