I strongly recomend the beaches on the park side, very quiet and you can also get some shades. Kids enjoyed it a lot. Views are amazingFull review by simona g

Main Beach in the downtown area, 1000 Steps, Scotsman Cove and other lesser beaches are not closed on the weekends. You can have a beach closure from a contamination of one sort or another. I've been going to Main Beach since the late 1940's and I've never been there or heard of the beach being closed due to rowdy crowds, a shark sighting or overcrowding. While Main Beach is the most popular, look at other beaches in the city for smaller crowds.
